June/July 2024 The Connection

Director’s Note

About a year ago I attended the Center's Annual Spring Block Party hosted by the previous director. A couple of friends from grade school and I met there for the music and a meal. We felt funny being at the "SENIOR" center because we didn't recognize ourselves as seniors. Full transparency: we've been seniors for 15 years. That's the thing about a Senior Center! Some "seniors" don't identify as a senior. Since becoming director, I've seen this and it makes me sad because there are so many things to do here, so many connections to make, and the potential for so much more. I truly understand the challenge of making acquaintances. It was so easy in grade school to connect. One reason I use the term Connection Center in place of Senior Center is because my goal is to create a Welcome Center for all types of people, increasing the potential to make connections and new friends. We would like to hear how you make acquaintances as you age. Please join me on Tuesday July 23rd at the Center for an open forum about connecting with others. All my best, Molly Kyne
